After several decades of development, EDM is a widely applied, a mature and no-traditional process, which is widely applied in aviation, aerospace industry, mechanical, electronics, automobile, surgical components, optics, mould, chemical-fibre, materials, light-industry etc. and the machining of complex surface workpieces, parts of super finishing requirement, and workpieces of special requirement. Small hole's machining is a very important working method and of a large proportion in machining. According to statistics, hole's machining occupies third in total machining. In recent years, the high strength and the high hardness materials become a new trend of material application, we always need carry through the small hole's machining and the deep hole's machining which is the most difficult machining for those material. If we adopt common EDM, low speed of machining, poor quality of workpiece surface quality and restricted deepness of processing that the depth-to-hole diameter ratios is less than 20 limited the application of EDM on the small hole's machining and the deep hole's machining. In order to enhance material removal rate and improve the state on elimination of debris and poor quality of workpiece surface quality, a new process for high-speed small hole EDM drilling and Micro-EDM etc., a new hybrid machining such as ultrasonic assisted EDM grow up on the basis of EDM.Based on the DC magnetic field assisted EDM hybrid machining, this paper presents the permanent magnetic assisted EDM hybrid machining and the AC magnetic field assisted EDM hybrid machining, which will combine EDM with electromagnetic technology and make full use of electromagnetic force,magnetization force and the property of magnetic field on the plasma oscillations, more systematic study on the magneic field assisted EDM hybrid machining is carried on, the major content as follows:(1) Design and manufacture of the clamp for the fixing of the permanentmagnet.According to experimental requirements of hybrid machining, we design and manufacture the clamp for the fixing of the permanent magnet, and the anti-magnetic material guider matched to the clamp is also be manufactured.(2)Mechanism analysis of the permanent magnetic field assisted EDM hybrid machining. The influence of gradient magnetic field on the locomotory trajectory of electriferous particles, the force of debris and the change reasons of debris's roundness degree and ellipticity are analysed, the conclusion is also be validated by experiments.(3)Design and manufacture of the AC magnetic field device for the AC magneic field assisted EDM hybrid machining. Based on the no-load transformer Principle, the AC magnetic field device for the AC magneic field assisted EDM hybrid machining which can generate AC magnetic field of better stability and can regulate the frequency is be designed and manufactured. (4)Mechanism analysis of the AC magnetic field assisted EDM hybrid machining. Influence of the AC magnetic induction intensity on the plasma oscillations is analysed and the conclusion is also be validated by experiments.Research on the permanent magnetic assisted EDM hybrid machining and the AC magneic field assisted EDM hybrid machining are carried on in detail. The validity is also be validated through experiments. Therefore, the research has great significance for the promotion of theoretical research, development and practical applications of the magneic field assisted EDM hybrid machining.
