Carbon nanotube is a new one-dimensional nanomaterial of carbon allotrope except for the diamond and fullerenes, typically having diameter of a few nanometers or less, and length of a few hundred microns or millimetres, centimetres order. It have been attracting wide attention of scientists from all over the world because of its unique quasi-one-dimensional molecular structure of tubular, excellent mechanical, electrical and chemical properties and its potential applications in the field of high-tech, which leads to the rapid development upsurge of carbon nanotubes in the field of nanometer science and technology over the ten years. In this paper, the properties of terahertz wave antenna of carbon nanotubes have been investigated. Based on the structure of carbon nanotubes, growth technologies, as well as characteristics of carbon nanotubes, terahertz wave antenna has been proposed. After carbon nanotube antenna parameters have been studied, the radiation characteristics of single element of carbon nanotube antenna, the structures and optimization of antenna arrays have been analyzed by using the finite integral of numerical methods.Numerical simulation and theoretical calculated demonstrate that the single-walled carbon nanotube antenna with half wave length of 15um and radius of 2.712nm takes on the maximum gain of 2.39dB in the center frequency of 9.74THz from 9.35THz to 10.23THz, corresponding lower than -10dB return loss (S11) bandwidths of 9.0%, and voltage standing wave ratio is less than 2.In the antenna arrays technology, antenna element spacing, as well as current phase and amplitude have been adjusted in order to improving radiation directivity and characteristics of the antenna array within the operating frequency span. After adopted the special optimization method, the gain of antenna arrays in main lobe increased from 12.85 dB to 16.64 dB, increased amplitude of 31.1%. The overall results could be suitable for the research and design of high frequency terahertz wave radiation and antenna, witch can promote basic research in many areas, such as industrial applications, medical field, the military field and the development of the biological area.
