Combined machining technology as a new technology that meet the demand of multi-varieties, small-batch and individualized development, is being concerned more and more by machine tool industry, and nowadays composite machine tool has become one of the most important developing directions of NC machine tools. The machining accuracy of NC machine tools is an important index while measuring their working performance, for which the study of NC machine tools' accuracy has become one of the basic tasks in modern manufacturing technology research. The horizontal turning and milling composite machine tool HC-80, which is researched and developed independently by the Mechanical Automation Institute of Xi'an University of Technology, integrates the turning function, milling function and grinding function, and it has the machining function of turning, milling, drilling, boring, tapping, grinding and so on. This paper aims to analyze, evaluate and improve the machining accuracy of the turning and milling composite machine tool HC-80, so as to make it be a high-accuracy, high-efficiency and high-flexibility advanced composite machine tool.In this paper, the error sources affecting machining accuracy of the turning and milling composite machine tool HC-80 are analyzed, and then the steps and methods of error compensation improving the HC-80's machining accuracy are proposed. Based on the theory of multi-body system kinematics, the relative position and attitude relations among multi-bodies are described with homogenous coordinate transformation matrixes, and in this way the mathematical model for the space error of the HC-80 machine tool is constructed. Geometric error and the motion error of the HC-80 machine tool are detected with RENISHAW Laser interferometer, then the errors detected are identified and analyzed. The error compensation of the HC-80 machine tool is carried out with the error compensation technical methods. Finally, the detection experiment is given to validate the feasibility and efficiency of the error compensation method.This project has significant meaning to improve the machining accuracy of multi-axis CNC machine tool, promote and accelerate the development of manufacture science.
