The remanufacture engineering is a technique region and newly industry with widespread development. In the general, waste diamond tools have many remained diamond abrasives, and the base materials of tools can be used once again. Electro-plated diamond tools were took as an example and the remanufacture study of diamond tools was researched. Therefore, the remanufacture of electro-plated diamond tools is very important in order to avoid the waste of diamond materials. Remanufacture varieties of electro-plated diamond tools were classified as recoverable, upgrading and innovative remanufacture. Physical model and mathematic model of diamond tool remanufacture were established. The remanufacture performance should be considered during product design step, which could improve the remanufacture ability obviously in the life terminal.A green recycle method of electroplated diamond tools was presented and the measurement and identification method for diamond tool features was proposed based on digital image processing techniques. Tool concentration, protrusion height of diamond abrasive grains, grains size, slenderness ratio and distribution of shape coefficients can be measured. The measurement and identification method for diamond tool features is a vital procedure, which affects the accuracy and efficiency of tools remanufacture directly.Finite element analysis software, ANSYS, was applied to analyze thermal stress of three typical structures of electro-plated diamond tools. The results indicate that different structure tools have different thermal stress under the same thermal load-conditions. The improvement of diamond tools structure affects their thermal stress distribution and magnitude directly, it will decrease the stripping difficulty between the electro-plated layer and substrate material. Therefore, the remanufacture performance should be considered during product design step. It will improve the remanufacture ability of diamond tools obviously.
