HAAKE RS600-rotary rheometer was applied to measure the rheological behavior of polymer solutions of varying concentration. Factors, such as solution concentration and shear rate that affect the rheological behavior were analyzed. On the basis of rheological curve, the power law model was adopted to determine the power law index and the consistency index. The dynamic and static shear experiments were conducted to measure the viscoelasticity of polymer solutions, the experiments reflect that when concentration lower than 1000mg/L, the polymer solutions can be deemed as pure viscous power law fluid. The method of volume averaging was introduced. The volume averaged forms of the continuity equation and momentum equation were obtained for the flow in porous media of power law fluids. The total drag force per unit volume was considered as the bulk damping resistance due to Darcy resistance and the resistance due to the inertia forces(Forchheimer resistance),then the Brinkman-Forchheimer extended Darcy model and its modified form for power law fluids was obtained from the averaged momentum equation. The dimensionless equation of power law flow in porous media was determined subsequently, which constructs the theoretical basis for the flow experiment of polymer solutions in porous media. The experimental pressure drop measurements were made in a packed bed under a variety of conditions, and the variation of the fanning friction factor with the Reynolds number which based on particle diameter was obtained. The experiment data was divided into Darcy regime, transitional regime and inertial regime in accordance with the Reynolds number. the flow behavior of polymer solution in those three regime under the influence of the power law index and the viscoelasticity affection were analyzed.
