| Wetlands are the most productive eco-system in the world, They are the origin of bio-diversity providing water and basic production, and innumerable types of plants and animals depend on wetland to survive. The physical,biological and chemical constituents interact with each other that enable wetlands to play an important role in providing water,decreasing flood,adjusting climate and protecting bio-diversity. Furthermore, wetlands also provide economic uses. However, the present situation is depressing: the area of wetland reduces, water quality worsens, bio-diversity decreases and inappropriate management causes the loss of wetland function.Biodiversity conversation is an international hot topic, which has been carried out thoroughly by the governments all over the world. The Liangzi Lake is in south coast in the middle reaches of the yangtze river, which is the origin of Wuchangyu . up to now, The lake is the second largest fresh water lakes in Hubei province whose surface area is about 42 million mu. It owns the largest water-holding capability in hubei. Due to the irrational use and poor management, the ecological function of the Liangzi Lake has been damanged. In such an urgent situation, it's of great significance that we shoud study the biodiversity conversation and the ecological functional status to futher explore the sustainable development and improve the ecological environment of the great lake.By the methods of authoritative information and field survey, the distribution of seed plants and the vertebrate animals has been mad out.; the biodiversity information system has been realiseed by use of the ASP (Active Server Pares) language for Web and the access for the background databases, and the individual and combined enquiries for species information has been achieved on the internet.This system has a number of enquiries and management functions. the system has many linkings, including brief introduction, query system, management system, picture bank, based link, news reporting, program introduction and popular science. The query system contains two levels. one is the basic search, which demand inputing the specific name of some species,the genera name,the class name or the combination of them; the other is integrated query, which can realize the querying on the classified information, the habitats, the life habit, the flora, the conservation grade, and the distributions. The management system is only designed for the web designers and maintainers, which can realize the modification on the internet.
