To utilize plentiful starch resources in our country and meet the urgent requirement on new paper additive to enterprise, such reaserch has been done on the combination of modified canna starch and PDADMAC and the performance of complexes on retention and drainage of the pulps. The relationship between reaction conditions and the carboxyl and carbonyl content of oxidized starches(OS) was investigated by the study of catalytic oxidation. The advanced method GPC-MALLS was used to analyze the component and structure of catalytic oxidized canna starch and to study the effect of catalytic oxidation on the molecular distribution of canna srarch. The formation and polyelectrolyte viscosity behavior of OS/PDADMAC were studied, and its aqueous solution properties and retention filter performace were also studied. The effect of preparation conditions on the performance of cross-linked canna starch(JS) and crosslinking-oxidized canna starch(JOS) were studied. The rms radius, molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution of JS, JOS and JOS/PDADMAC were studied by GPC-MALLS. Finally, the thesis determined the relationship between the charge density and molecular weight of complexes and the retention filter performace. It was established a new way to develop the new paper additive.
