At present, ball-end milling is one of the most extensive tool while sculptured surface machining. Combined with the feacture of sculptured surface machining, based on the cutting theory, the process of sculptured surface machining can be researched. The process of sculptured surface machining with ball-end milling is complicated, concerning many parameters which are influent each other. It is not easy to describe accuratly the process of sculptured surface machining with ball-end milling. The cutting force is an important parameter, it is the basis of reseaching "tool-workpiece"system, creating model and analyzing dynamics. Considering the complex geometry of the ball-end milling, the situation of cutting element can be analyzed by discreting the differential cutting edges along the axis. According to specific example, the cutting model of ball-end milling is estabilshed. The main factors of influening surface quality are attained by analyzing surface waviness of milled sculptured surface, tool vibration is one of the factors. On the basis of the cutting force model of ball-end milling, the Modal and Transient dynamics analysis of the tool vibration can be researched by FEM software-ANSYS. The relation between vibration displacement and cutting time can be depicted, the combination of milling speed, feed rate and cutting depth can be discussed whether the three cutting elements will produce surface waviness. The relation between vibration displacement and cutting time based on the Finite element analysis simulation model of ball-end milling has been researched, the results can be ultilzed to forecast the tool vibration during process of sculptured surface machining. The analysis of vibration with ball-end milling can enhance the workpiece quality and production efficiency.
