In this paper, we mainly focus on the preparation of PCs(Porous Carbon) from petroleum coke which is activated by different activated agents such as KOH,NaOH,K2CO3,ZnCl2 and H2O vapor. The effect of experimental conditions on the adsorption capability of PCs is systematically investigated. Coal pitch is used as binder to prepare shaped PCs which react with H2O vapor then. The surface structure and adsorption capability of PCs are systematically characterized by so many methods, such as iodine adsorption,benzene adsorption and Boehm titration. And the molded PCs is straightly used in catalyzing diesel conversion. The conclusions are as follow: Daqing petroleum coke is an ideal raw material, which can prepare PCs with high surface area. NaOH and KOH do better work than other activated agents and the mechanism are quite similar. KOH is more suitable than NaOH to prepare PCs with high adsorption capability; K2CO3 and ZnCl2 are not good at active petroleum coke; H2O Vapor can be used on a large scale due to its cheapness, although inferior to NaOH and KOH. Under 10℃and 3-4MPa, the shaped PC has good adsorption ability over methane which is about 150V/V.The preparation of Porous carbons (PCs) employ many different activated agents, the application of such PCs has been studied. And it has been confirmed that petroleum coke is a better material to produce PCs with high surface area. This study also help to wide the application fields of petroleum coke.
