Furfuryl alcohol is an important organic chemical material. Present traditional catalyst for furfural hydrogenation to furfuryl alcohol contains Cr is harmful to people′s health and causes severe environmental pollution. In addition the catalyst which is imported is very extortionate. So to study new high active catalyst for the producing furfuryl alcohol through hydrogenation of furfural, is no doubt of great practical significance.It presented Cu-base catalyst, using Cu as active component, Al2O3 as support. TG-DTA analysis and XRD techniques were used, combined with the appraised experiment of catalyst activity we found the optimal conditions: calcinated at 450℃for 4 hours, reduced at 220℃for 4 hours and copper mass content of 24%. The activity component was imported to carrier through dipping method. The methods of adding assistants Ca or using compound support Al2O3-ZrO2 both can improve the conversion of furfural, the selectivity and the yield of furfural alcohol. The study shows that the best content of Ca is 7.2%(mass fraction) and the best content of ZrO2 in compound support is 20%(mass fraction).The loading catalyst of (Cu-Ca/Al2O3-ZrO2) was used in experiments. The performance of catalyst activity were studied under various pressure, space velocity, and ratio of hydrogen and furfural. The result shows that the loading catalyst (Cu-Ca/Al2O3-ZrO2) has high activity and selectivity. The conversion of furfural is 99.9%, the selectivity of furfural alcohol is 98.3% and the yield of furfural alcohol reaches 98.2% under the conditions that space of velocity is 1.2 h-1, hydrogen and furfural mole ratio is 4, pressure is 0.6MPa and reaction temperature is 160℃.From the present work, the performance of catalysed hydrogenation of Cu-base catalyst prepared is good. It is hopeful to become a kind of new high-efficient and green catalyst. The work of this paper present an effective data for domestic catalyst free of Cr.
