Nylon1010 (PA1010) is a very important engineering plastic explored by our country. It has high mechanical strength, pretty impact, self-lubrication and electric insulation properties, good chemical stability and fluidity and better dimensional stability and water absorbability than nylon6 and nylon66. But its poor toughness under dry and low temperature conditions restricts further application. Many modification techniques have been widely used to improve its toughness property. In this paper, thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU)/PA1010 blends were prepared by solution mixing. The interaction between the two polymers, crystallization and melting behavior and crystal structure of PA1010 were investigated using variable temperature Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), respectively. The main conclusions are summarized as follows:1. The IR spectra of melted blends leached by cyclohexanone indicated that only a small amount of TPU had reacted with and grafted onto the molecular chains of PA1010.2. The results of Variable temperature FTIR showed that H-bonds formed between amide carbonyl and NH groups and those between urethane carbonyl and NH groups were partly destroyed, that is, the interaction of the two polymers mainly occurred between amide carbonyl and urethane NH groups. H-bond was the main mode of interaction between the two polymers.3. Studies on the crystallization and melting behavior of the blends showed that the presence of TPU hindered the crystallization of PA1010, leading to the fact that the crystallization and melting peak temperatures shifted to low temperature zone. The blends presented a single or double melting peak, which was attributed to recrystallization and reorganization. 4. WAXD study indicated PA1010 and TPU/PA1010 blends presented inαform, and the relative crystalline degree of PA1010 in the blends decreases, implying special interaction between PA1010 and TPU.
