The motive of research on open architecture CNC systems is to solve the conflict between variational needs and close architecture control systems, constitute a new-style modular, reconfigurable and extensible control system architecture, then the flexibility of CNC system can be enhanced, and the new maching need can be fleetly answered, so it is an important developing direction of CNC systems. At present, most of the CNC systems at workshops are universal ones, but for some special machine tools such as appropriative grinding machines, appropriative position control equipments, gear machining tools and so on, appropriative interfaces and some special functional modules are need for their convenient operation, management, for the predominance of CNC systems being exerted more.Gear machining tools have their complexity and particularity such as complicated movement connection, more adjustive factors and more factors effectting the process precision, so the gear machining tools have higher and more special needs for the CNC system. At present, most of the CNC systems used in gear maching tools are universal ones, and there are not any these kinds of CNC systems made in China on the market, so research on the redevelopment of the universal CNC systems is indispensable.Based on the analysis above, this paper puts forward the redevelopment idea of CNC systems used in gear machining tools, by studying open architecture CNC systems and CNC systems used in gear maching tools. For Siemens CNC systems, the paper analyzes its capability, frame, redevelopment's principle and method, analyzes the redevelopment's need, and designs the functional module. Auto-programming functional module and quality diagnosis functional module for the gear hobbing machines are urgently needed by the market, and they are mostly studied in this paper, constituting the mathematical model of auto-programming technique by studying the principle of gear hobbing and NC programming technique, finishing system and flow design of the auto-programming functional module, and realizing it by Siemens's redeveloping tools.By studying process quality control, process quality diagnosis, intelligent quality diagnosis, the quality characteristics and their causes of gear hobbing, the paper constitutes the model of the hobbing quality control, constructs the frame of process quality control system based on quality diagnosis, and concretely analyzes and simulates the parts of the frame, and all of these are the base of realization in Siemens CNC systems.
