Water-paper cutting is a critical technology in tobacco machinery. The quality of the device both has a direct impact on the stability and reliability of the machine, and the same times, it is related to the quality of cigarette and cost of the raw material. At present. The technology of tipping cutter unit includes roller-cutting and shear- cutting.The main content of this research is: to compare the pros and cons of this two technologies through experiments; to creatively design a Tipping cutter unit for shear-cutting on the basis of the domestic and foreign advanced technology and similar structures; to use the experimental means to measure the relevant data; to make a theoretical analysis by using the knowledge of machinery principle and space analytic geometry; to build relevant 3-D model by using Pro/ENGINEER software.This subject adopts the methods of experimental verification and theoretical analysis. Part one of the experiment is to study the present Tipping cutter unit for roller -cutting, then analyse the major factors affecting machine noise and bit life-span through a series of data from the experiment and research of the cigarette factory, finally get the concrete data that can prove the necessity of the improvement of the machine. Part two of the experiment is an experimental study of the Tipping cutter unit for shear-cutting, which comparability analyzes the pros and cons of Tipping cutter unit for shear-cutting and roller-cutting, and finally gets the conclusion that the former one is better than the latter in nearly all aspects. As to the theoretical analysis, the author analyzed the operating principle of the Tipping cutter unit for shear-cutting through machinery principle; deduced several calculate formulas of the hob, which formed the theoretical basis of the cut design. This thesis mainly discusses the theory of the optimizing design in broad sense and gives a detailed introduction of the process of optimizing design of Tipping cutter unit for shear-cutting.This thesis is the first one to study totally and systematically on the technology of Tipping cutter through the combination of theory and experiments. The research result followed the world advanced technology and reached the advanced international level of the late 1990's and decreased the gap between level of our country and the world.The successful research and development of this technology reduced the import of the similar machine and can hopefully enter into the international competition so as to break the monopoly of the foreign companies in this line. This will finally reduce the fixed investments cost and machine maintanance cost of the cigarette company and give the domestic clients prompt technological support and service on the aspect of supply attachment , reform and heavy repair. This research has extremely high practical value and marketplace prospect.
