With the application of the welding process in the industry, in order to strengthen their competition, manufacturers scream for the less cost and higher efficiency welding process. Append magnetic field control on welding process is an advanced welding technology which is developing now. As plasma, welding arc has well electric character. Exterior magnetic field can affect shape and movment of welding arc. And the welding bead and drops transfer can also be changed to improve the welding process and advanced the productivity. To control the welding process with additional magnetic field has many advantages such as its affixture equip is simple, the cost is low, and it consumes little energy etc.The device with longitudinal intermittent alternative magnetic fields was used in this paper; excitation power sourec an magnetic head are included. Magnetic head is designed by coaxial symmetrical with wire axis. The insulation, cooling and hermetization of magnetic head avoid the influence on magnetic field of outside;miniaturization design of magnetic head could achieve different welding process.Based on the finite element analysis, the distribution of the mangnetic field is simulated. The value of the excitation current which affect the distribution and strength of the magnetic are discussed. With the same shape of the excitation coil, excitation current only affecte the strength of the magnetic, can't affecte the distribution of the mangnetic field.Longitudinal magnetic was used in TIG/MIG welding arc. Using the advanced high-speed video camera technic analyse excitation current and frequency influence on metal transfer and the characteristic of arc motion regular, and analyse the reason of droplet and arc motion behavior was changed for altering magnetic parameter.Longitudinal magnetic field acting on aluminum alloy MIG arc welding was used in this paper. How longitudinal magnetic field effecting the weld of the aluminum alloy were studied through the microstructure and property tests. The results show that: the weld surface of the aluminum alloy is slicked and the weld microstructure is refined obviously. At the same time, the weld properties of aluminum alloy are enhanced with matched longitudinal magnetic field parameters.
