As the growing of needs of advocating nature, back to nature and the awareness of environmental protection, green health textiles is favored by consumers gradually. Bamboo fiber fabric is attracted due to unique properties and now is widely used in the field of clothing manufacture. In this study, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) and other modern testing equipment are employed to investigate bamboo fiber's structure,properties and yarn mechanical properties,respectively. At the same time, bamboo fiber fabric is studied by performance test systems so as to provide a theoretical basis and technological support for clothing applications and new product development. The results are shown as follow:Bamboo fiber has flat polygon surface of cross section,which is not skin-core structure, and has a cavity with the distribution of radial cracks. In addition, there are many tenuous grooves with a little crack, a clear nodes, and no natural convolution on the horizontal surface. The length and diameter of bamboo fiber very close to ramie fiber, wicich cause bamboo fiber can be spin on the ramie spinning equipment. Bamboo fiber has higher breaking strength and lower elongation compared with that of cotton at break. Therefore, it belongs to high-strength, low-stretch and high initial modulus fiber.With the increase of linear density of bamboo fiber yarn, the breaking strength, elongation at break,initial modulus and fracture work of bamboo fiber yarn increased significantly. But specific work of rupture up first, then decreased. Under fixed external force the total elastic recovery percentage, acute elastic recovery percentage, slow elastic recovery percentage fluctuate slightly, compared to increase of the linear density of bamboo fiber yarn. Moreover, creep elongation lower slightly, but the change marginally.Compared with cotton fabric, the property of bamboo fiber fabric are better in durability and comfort, poor in crease resistance and Drape;it is also slightly inferior for finishing stability, dimensional stability, the effect of hot pressure and Pleated shape retention; furthermore, that of hygroexpansivity,extension, shear rigidity and handle are poor, whereas that of bending rigidity is better. However,after soften finishing there are obvious improve in drape, anti-wrinkle, finishing stability, dimensional stability, plastic, shape and stretching deformation of bamboo fiber fabric; fabric durability, fabric comfort, Bending stiffness and shear stiffness of bamboo fiber fabric decresed clealy;the apparent thickness and handle of the fabric has not changed. It can be concluded that the appearance characteristics of bamboo fiber fabric is improved significantly after finishing softener. As a result, in order to improve the performance of the garment bamboo fiber fabricshould be deal with soft finish when which is used in clothing.
