Due to the complexity of forging die design and great dependence on designer's knowledge and experience, how to enhance the level of forging die intelligent design has been the emphasis in the die field. Introducing knowledge-Based Engineering technology into forging die design field, so that it can help designers in dealing with the experience and knowledge of die design systematically, and can be helpful for design thinking and can guide and appraise the design. All of them have become a hot spot of information in die domestic industry.In present paper forging die CAD intelligent design as an example, first, KBE system is discussed by analysising the basic principles of KBE technology, and the key technology and its application feasibility in the die design field, the framework of network forging die. That is, the whole system is divided into knowledge management systems and design automation systems, and the two parts share a bottom database which is mainly used for storing the necessary design knowledge.Secondly, knowledge management systems supporting design of forging die is constructed based on J2EE platform, by combining the various data, knowledge, work experience, rules, and other works. At the same time, by using object-oriented programming methods, the second development is worked. And by using parametric designing techniques based on feature the integration of KBE technology and CAD software is achieved. It can help the designer reasoning, judging , deciding and establish good technical preparations for future overall design systems.Finally, feasibility and rationality of the developed system is verified by the long axis category forging die CAD systems, and the research experience is summarized.Through the study of this topic, the forging die design technology, KBE technology, network technology and secondary development of CAD software technology are combined. It will not only collect the design experience and knowledge effectively, but also realize the intelligent design of CAD, so the efficiency of forging die design is increased. It provides a solid foundation for intelligent design of complex forging die.
