In order to attach phosphorylcholine (PC) group to polymers and get materials having excellent anticogulent property, the approaches to synthesize methacryloyloxyethyl phophorylcholine (MPC) were mainly investigated. MPC was copolymerized with other monomers and the modifiesd copolymers were characterized by variety methods.Phosphorus trichloride was first reacted with ethylene glycol to obtain 2-chloro-1,3,2-dioxa-phospholane (CDP) which was oxidated into 2-chloro-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxa-phospholane (COP) by dry oxygen. After purification, COP was added dropwise to a solution of hydroxyethyl methacrylate and react with it at -20℃, 2-(2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphopholoyloxy)ehyl metharylate (OPEMA) was obtained. Finally, OPEMA was mixed with trimethylamine in glass press bottle and was heated to 60℃to obtain the monomer MPC. IR and 1H NMR were used to characterize the chemical structure of MPC.PMPC obtained from polymerization of MPC was characterized by IR, 1H NMR. DSC experiment showed that the Tg of PMPC was 42℃and was decomposed at 150℃or so. The copolymers of MPC, such as poly(MPC-co-n-butylmethacylate), poly(MPC-co-styrene), poly(MPC-co-methacylate acid) were also synthesized via copolymerization of the MPC with other monomers. DSC results showed that Tg of these copolymers descended compared with the homopolymers after the introduction of PC group. At last, the water absorption of PMB copolymers was also studied. The water content increased with increasing MPC content in the copolymers and had dramastic change when MPC mole fraction was only 9%. The water content increased with inmersion temperature.
