Biological treatment process is an effective conventional process that has been applied widely. Moving-bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) and Membrane Biological Reactor (MBR) are comparably new types of biological reactor that have also attracted great attention in recent years. In this paper, combining these two reactors together was studied to treat pharmaceutical wastewater and exert advantages of each method, expecting to obtain best treatment effects and optimal economical benefit. The whole experiment was divided into two parts: first Membrane-Circulated Moving Carrier Biofilm Reactor (M-CMCBR) was used to treat pharmaceutical wastewater; then anaerobic reactor and aerobic biological reactor were used to theat pharmaceutical wastewater, in which the anaerobic reactor is Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR).Experimental results showed that: when aerobic treatment process was only used, the COD removal ratio would be above 70% along with the COD value changing between 3700-12000mg/L, but this treatment process did not get a satisfactory result in NH3-N removal. The effluent NH3-N did not reduce, instead there would be a great rise. In addition, due to the impact of the bubble and the high salt content, there were still many problems in long-term operation of the treatment system. When anaerobic pretreatment and aerobic system were used to treat pharmaceutical wastewater, both the COD and NH3-N got a good removal. The COD removal ratio would basically be above 85% when the COD value changed between 3800-7200mg/L, also the effluent NH3-N was below 30mg/L.In this experiment a good treatment result was achieved by using the anaerobic pretreatment and aerobic system, still some problems were to be solved such as the best operating condition was not found and the method that made the system operated in a steady condition was not found either. All the solutions to these difficulties were needed to be studied in further research.
