Macrocyclic Schiff base and macrocyclic amide are two kinds of important subjective molecules in supermolecular chemistry. Compared to catenarian compound, the smaller flexibility of macrocyclic compound greatly enhances its preassembly and combined capability to objective molecule. Furthermore, the variety of cavity size and the number and kind of the donated atom in the cavity, make the macrocyclic compound exhibit special combined performance. The macrocyclic Schiff base and macrocyclic amide are of great use not only in transition metal complexes, but also have important applied value in molecule recognization and bio-medicine technology.Schiff base macrocyclic compounds containing unsaturated Schiff base functional group (>C=N-) are heteroatom macrocyclic ligands, mainly generating by the aromatic dialdehyde (benzene, pyridine, furan, thiophene, etc.) or dione compounds reactting with a series of polyamines. The pair of solitary electronics on the nitrogen atom of the functional group (>C=N-) has a strong ability to form stable metal complexes, inf- luenced by the strong electronegative of the nitrogen atoms and the el- ectron cloud density on the close double bond.Because of their unique spectrum, structure, optical and electromagnetic properties and the thermodynamic and kinetic stability, macrocyclic Schiff base complexes has been widespread concerned and studied and applied in a number of areas such as simulation of biological enzyme in the metal ions, molecules recognition and transport, photochemistry, pharmaceutical synthesis, molecular electronics, crystal engineering, supramolecular catalyst, nuclear waste processing and storage, photochemical sensors, supramolecular optoelectronic devices, electronic transfer equipment, treatment of tumor tracer, NMR and EPR imaging Contrast agent.Macrocyclic amide compound containing cyclic peptide structure is a macrocyclic polyamine ligand. As a unique structure for a class of macrocyclic polyamine compounds, both has the dual structure characteristics of the macrocyclic polyamines and oligopeptides. Amide groups which can be used as a hydrogen donor, is also as a hydrogen-bonding receptors. The amide through the formation of hydrogen bond generated the properties of interaction between the subject and the object, making the macrocyclic amide compounds with the structure of cyclic peptide as useful ligands in complexing and detecting the. harmful environmental and medical anions. Some transition metal complexes with special catalytic activities and biological function, has been paid much attention, and has been widely studied on oxidation, metal enzyme models, molecular recognition and materials chemistry.In recent years, the studies on the synthesis and application of macrocyclic Schiff base and macrocyclic amide are paid much attention. The improvement and innovation of their synthesis methods make lots of new macrocyclic Schiff bases and macrocyclic amides synthesized. Four novel macrocyclic Schiff bases and two macrocyclic amides were synthesized and characterized in this article, and the main content is shown as follows:1,The intermediates 1a, 2a, 1b and 2b were synthesized and their structures were characterized by FT-IR, UV-vis and MS.2,Four macrocyclic Schiff bases 3a, 4a, 3b, 4b were synthesized and their structures were characterized by FT-IR, UV-vis and MS.3,Two macrocyclic amides were synthesized and their structures were characterized by FT-IR, UV-vis and MS.
