With the high development of the motor industry, motor performance is advanced continually, there is a great demand for precise and complex auto parts. Traditional processes can't meet the requirement of the motor parts. In such cases, new forging processes, material and energy saving processes are very important to the production of new type of auto parts. And the advanced technology of die design will play an important role in improving auto parts design, shortening development period and lowing production cost.Based on the theory of the hot-forging forming, the work is introduced in the research on the 6700 steering knuckle of light truck as follows:(1) Based on the friction press for forming equipment, designing a forging process of one-heating forming, i.e. blanking→heat up in the middle frequency furnace→pre-forming→pre-forging→finish-forging.(2) Using the FEM software, the three-dimensional thermal coupling FEM model for pre-forming, pre-forging and finish-forging process is simulated and analyzed. The shape and size of the blank is got through iterative simulating and optimizing. The metal flow process, distribution of metal in the pre-forging and finish-forging dies, distribution of equivalent strain and curve of the forming load against stroke of the forging are got, which provides the reference for mold designing and optimizing the mold structure.(3) In the research on the mold of the pre-forging and finish-forging, the current and total wear value of dies, the distribution of the temperature and metal sliding velocity are got, meanwhile, the dies service life is forecasted.The process mentioned above is studied through physical experiment, the result inosculates the numerical result, which validates the correction of the numerical result and feasibility of the new process, realizing one-heating forming of steering knuckle of automobile by friction press, sampling process of part-forming, reducing the production cost and meet the requirement of energy saving and environmental protection. It also provides references for the forming of the similar parts.
