It's a big problem that cutting large-diameter eccentric hole on the cylindrical shell and variable angle groove issue in the shipbuilding industry. There are equipments to complete the cutting, but there are still some limitations, so this paper will do the research based on a new type of series-parallel cutting mechanism to meet the changing needs of cutting structure.This paper is based on the basic functional requirements of cutting hole and groove, designs the new five degrees of freedom cutting machine by using series-parallel mechanism. Completing designing cutting machine mechanical structure; with detail kinematics analysis on the parallel mechanism part, calculating the mechanism's location both positive and antithesis, mechanism's speed Jacobi matrix, defining the geometric method of three degrees of freedom planar parallel mechanism working space, giving identify conditions belong to working space point; analyzing the influencing factors in movement precision of cutting machine; doing the kinematics simulation of cutting machine with Pro/E and Recurdyn software, and verifying the design with rationality and good dynamic characteristic.Based on series-parallel mechanism, the cutting machine which is designed in this paper would completed the work in the space within the scope of any curve.
