The size is the key material to insure the weaving production,the performance of the size can impact greatly on the production quality and production efficiency.At present,the studies focus on the denaturalization of starch and development of new acrylic acid size.The main study of this paper is on the acrylic acid size modified by nano-SiO2.Earlier acrylic size has the merits of adhesion and flexibility and demerits of hygroscope,tackiness and too soft film.According to the characteristic of nanopartical materials,we add nanoparticle silicon dioxide(SiO2) to the acrylic acid size to improve the sizing quality and may be replace PAV partially or completely.Because the particle size of nano-SiO2 has large ratio of surface to volume,high surface activity,and congregate each other easily,we use oleic acid(OA) to coat the nano-SiO2 powder to reduce the congregate with some methods,and use IR,TEM to characterize the effect of coating. The paper also discusses the best proportion of OA to nano-SiO2 by IR and TEM. The technical parameters are acquired according the sizing need which puts the modified nano-SiO2 into the composition of acrylic acid size.By testing the performance of compositive sizing on singly-end sizing and open-warp sizing,as well as SEM observing the yarns,with the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation,a conclusion can be found that the performance are improved when the ratio of nano-SiO2 is increased,but when nano-SiO2 arrives a value,the performance becomes poor.
