Vanadiferous titanomagnetite ore is quite rich in An-Kang Zone(Gaoqiao Town of Ziyang County and Guanyuan Town of Langao County in Shaanxi Province) of China and its explored reserve is up to 0.472 billion tons,whose associated titanium dioxide mineral reserve is also up to 26.855 million tons.However,the mineral belongs to typical poor thin miscellaneous complex ore,whose content is low grade, component is very complex,and accumulation is hard too.Therefore,the separation of Ti-Fe andcomprehensive utilization is very hard.For the sake of conquering disadvantage of refining iron by blast furnace and reclaiming titanium effectively,the direct reduced iron(DR/) method is adopted in this paper.The DRI method can reduce iron ore which is in solid state condition to iron directly.Because the component of DRI is stable and the content of harmful element is low,especially inclusion element of anti-oxidation metal is little,so it can be used as pure material for smelting high quality steel or special steel,meanwhile,it can also be Used for foundry, ferroalloy,and powder metallurgy and so on.In view of the vanadiferous titanomagnetite concentrate and ilmenite concentrate being obtained by vanadiferous titanomagnetite ore separation,solid-state reduction behavior of ilmenite and fundamentals of strengthening reduction processes are discussed deeply by these theories of thermodynamics,kinetics,mechanochemistry, and so on.Based on the above investigations,a new technology process for comprehensive utilization of vanadiumferous titanomagnetite by solid-state reduction method is developed.The following conclusions are obtained.The thermodynamics shows that the temperature for reduction reaction of ilmenite should be controlled less than 1100℃;The reduction kinetics shows that reduction rate of ilmenite is slow and reduction can not reach high reduction level;Investigation on effect of additive on preoxidation reduction behavior of ilmenite shows that the homemade sodium metal-salt additive can influence solid-state reduction behavior of ilmenite observably.Finally,the test results for factory are obtained as following,the mass ratio of coal and breeze after machining is 14:100,the reduction temperature is 1150℃,and reduction time is 180min.When the activator content is 3%,the iron concentrate whose titanium content is less than 8%and iron content is up to 76.56%can be obtained by coal-based reduction technology.The analysis result indicates that direct reduction technology for vanadiferous ilmenite is a technology for comprehensive utilization of resources,which pioneers a feasibility technology route for comprehensive utilization of vanadiferous titanomagnetite in China.
