A rational strip mining project should meet three basic terms: First, strip pillar should keep long-term stability. Second, the value of surface movement and deformation should satisfy buildings protection requirements. Third, increase recovery yield and mining width as much as possible. The calculation method about the stability of strip pillar in general geological conditions was expounded. The effect about special geological condition to the stability of the pillar was analyzed. On this basis, a calculation program about the coal pillar stability was developed. According to the basic surface movement and deformation theory, the probability integral method was discussed. In order to improve the prediction accuracy about the inclined coal seam, the equivalent transforms line integral probability integration method was introduced. And the error function in probability integral method was discussed. On this basis, a prediction program about surface movement and deformation due to strip mining was developed. The test about this program shows that, the calculation results accords with the regularity of the surface movement and deformation due to strip mining. These two programs can assist manual decision, in order to obtain the optimal designing project of the size of pillar and mining.
