A novel supramolecular compound (H3O)[Fe(2,2′-bipy)3]2[FeW12O40]·7H2O has been synthesized by hydrothermal reactions and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum, thermal stability analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure has been described detailedly. It displays that the compound is construted from the extensive hydrogen bonding interactions formed by oxygen atoms of polyoxometalates, nitrogen atoms of 2,2′-bipyridine and water molecules. Magnetic study reveals iron ions are mixed valence and counter-ions are diamagnetic.
