With the Social development and the acceleration of urbanization, the heat island phenomenon is an increasingly serious problem. People are increasingly concerned with the heat island phenomenon for influence on human environment. In recent years, at home and abroad, so many experts study heat island phenomenon with surface air observation, digital space analogy and remote sensing technique (RS).In this article, the subject investigated is within area where the high way around the Hohhot, using 1987, 1997 and 2007 three time phase TM/ETM + remote sensing image and considering meteorological data, the thermal field and Landscape is as the main study contents. Study between 1987-2007 variation characteristics of thermal Landscape in the Hohhot city development and the changing of land cover. And quantitative study variations of surface influence on variations of heat island phenomenon. And give isuues about the soloutions based on the situations of urban heat island in Huhhot.1. Spatial structure of urban heat island in Huhhot,in 1987 had no significant high-temperature region and developed into a row of large area in 2007, which increased most obviousely from 1997 to 2007.Since 1987 to 2007,the hight-temperature area growth of 2.45 times,in 1997 to 2007 ,increase of high-temperature area nearly 10 times2. On the different types of underlying surface, the forest with the lowest temperature, followed by agricultural land and lawns, roads and the cement with the highest temperature .At the same time in the vertical space,road and cement with the highest temperature in surface,slight decrease with rise. The lawn, farmland and forest which vegetation coverd area, the lowest temperature appears in surface,rised with the height,the highest temperature appears in 100cm-150cm. 3. Urban land cover changes and urban artificially heat release is an important factor in urban heat island effect, in which the expansion of urban construction land and the reduction of green space is one of the main reasons. In 1987-1997, and 1997-2007,in the two time periods, the urban construction land in Huhhot increased 50.74% and 102.34 %, urban greenbelt reduced 6.71% and 24.52%, and the heat islandarea increased 245.14% and 913.68 %.4. The studies specific to surface temperature and vegetation index show that land surface temperature and NDVI has a good linear correlation, statistical analysis showed that the correlation coefficient between the two reached 0.6513, extremely significant correlation.5. Take rational urban planning and protection of greenbelt to prevent the further expansion of urban heat island effect.
