Pigment dyeing, due to its simple technique, energy conservation, easy to color matching and its own style, is loved by customers. However, there are some problems, such as hard softness and low color fastness, resulting the restrictions of its application and development. In order to solve the contradictions between fastness and softness, stable cationic polymer emulsion had been preparaed by using emulsion polymerization with cationic emulsifier and non-ionic emulsifier composite stabilizer. Then it used as a binder in order to improve the rubbing and washing fastness of pigment-dyed fabrics.In this work, the effect of the kind, ratio and amount of emulsifier, the kind and amount of initiator, and polymerization time and temperature on properties of cationic polymer emulsion and the fastness of pigment-dyed fabric are discussed. The structure of cationic copolymer emulsion is qualitative characterized and investigated by means of FTIR. Use Zetasizer Nano-ZS90 to test particle size and its distribution and Zeta potential of cationic polymer emulsion quantificationally. The affect of the amount of cationic polymer emulsion, curing time, curing temperature and apparent depth on the fastness of pigment-dyed fabric are studied. The effect of cationic polymer emulsion and anionic binder WB2 on softness and fastness and their own properties are compared. Using scanning electronic microscope(SEM) to observe the membrane formed on the surface of the fabric by cationic polymer emulsion and anionic binder to analysis the different results.The results indicate that when the ratio of cationic emulsifier CEA and non-ionic emulsifier AE is 2:1, the dosage of conjugated emulsifier accounts 8% all the monomers, the dosage of initiator is 5%, the monomer can well copolymerized and properties of emulsion are better. The solid content of cationic polymer emulsion is 21.28%, the particle size and its distribution are 48.32nm and 0.109, Zeta potential is 36.36mV, apparent viscosity is 3.70~3.71cP, and has good centrifugal, placement and dilution stability. As binder of pigment-dyed pabric, when the cationic polymer emulsion concentration is 40g/L, curing temperature is 120℃and the curing time is 180s the fastness of pigment-dyed pabric is better, both dark and light have effects. Scanning electronic microscope observation indicates that the cationic emulsion can form more perfect membrane on fabric surfaces than anionic binders. Compared with anionic binder WB2, cationic polymer emulsion has smaller bending rigidity and bending hysteresis moment and better fastness and softer softness.
