With the development of the modern industry, more and more poisonous substances have come into each field of environment through producing, using and emissioning, water body which is an important final place after chemicals come into environment and caused the water pollution. In order to protect the water resource, rationally set density of permission and discharge standard of pollutant in water environment, many methods have been used to monitor and appraise the water body. The river water gathered from the Bao Tou section of the Yellow River as algaes source, 96h acute toxicity and 8d chronic toxicity of 11 kinds of phenols and anilines to algae were determined according to the algaes growth inhibition test which prescribed by International Orgonization of Economic and Cooperaton Development (OECD). 24-96h EC50 value, 8d MATC value and dosale-effect curve were obtained. The results showed that the toxicity of the phenols and anilines compounds to the algaes was correlated with the kinds and position of substituents in benzene ring.QSAR model was built in order to further discuss on the mechanism of toxicity of phenols and anilines. The building method of QSAR model was link up the 8 quantum chemistry parameters of the 11 kinds of compounds with acute toxicity 48h EC50 and chronic toxicity MATC by the multiple linear step regression method with SPSS13.0. The model showed that, octanol-water partition coefficients lgP, molar refraction MR and the highest occupied molecular orbital energy EHOMO were main factor which influence toxicities of phenols and anilines. With lgP, MR and EHOMO obtained QSAR model showed that predicting function is very good.Discussion of the relationship between acute and chronic toxicity was developed according to linear regression method and acute/chronic ratio method, and obtained the correlation square. The identication is very good between chronic values computed by the square and the value tested. This result can make a reference to the same kinds of compounds when predict chronic toxicity using acute toxicity in being.
