With excellent sealing strength, wetting property with sealed materials and unique characteristic of thermal tolerance, sealing glass are widely used in the sealing applications of vacuum engineering, electronics, space navigation and motor vehicle. Thereby to low sealing temperature becomes the most focus on the research of sealing glasses. When the sealing temperature is low, traditional lead sealing g1asses are in high-lead content, or they would be with toxic metal oxide, such as Cd, Hg, Tl, which would pollute the environment. Nowadays, lead reduction and exploitation of lead free glasses are the social requirement which is much more concerned than before.In this paper both phosphate and vanadium sealing glass were studied. The sealing glasses were prepared by melting-quenching method. The relationship among composition, structure and properties was investigated by DSC, XRD, DILL. And then the effects of compositions on the fluid and soakage, sealing temperature, thermal expansion and chemical stability of the glass were discussed.Researches on phosphate sealing glasses show that the transition temperature (Tg) and thermal expansion coefficient (α) of R2O - P2O5 - Al2O3 - B2O3 (PR) glass are higher, therefore not suitable for sealing glass. However, P2O5-ZnO (PZ) glass was better than PR glass in Tg andαproperties and with the increasing of the P2O5/ZnO, the sealing temperature increased and then decreased. The sealing temperature of PZ-5(P2O5/ZnO is 50/35) glass is 520℃, which crystallized during sealing and belonged to microcrystalline sealing glass, so it can improve mechanical property. But the chemical stability was weak and the weight loss increased with the P2O5/ZnO ratio increased.The thermal expansion coefficient of V2O5-P2O5 (VP) sealing glass met the sealing requirement, and with the increasing of V2O5/P2O5, the sealing temperature decreased. The sealing temperature of the VP-5 (V2O5/P2O5 is 52/28) glass was 530℃. With the further increasing of (V2O5/P2O5), the sealing temperature increased a bit and the crystallizing temperature decreased and the chemical stable property increased. When the V2O5/P2O5 was 55/25, the crystallizing temperature decreased to sealing temperature and the sealing glass became microcrystalline sealing glass.
