In the process of slab continuous casting, the behaviors of the steel fluid in the mold play a decisive role in slab quality. The powder entrapment, solidification, heat transfer, temperature distribution and the solidification shell thickness are all greatly affected by the high-temperature steel fluid that has a quite large kinetic energy, when it entered the mold. In recent years, the numerical simulation research has developed into a frontier fields on the process of steel fluid flow and heat transfer in mold.It aims at having a good command of the rules of the steel fluid flow in mold and the distribution of the solidification shell, so as to provide a solid theoretical basis for the industrial production control and the mold design.Making use of the technological parameters adaped in practice and referring a large amount of reference document data, the speed field and the temperature field are analyzed in this paper. The main contents of the paper are as below:(1)A numerical simulation mathematic model for the speed field and the temperature field was set up. The governing equations for fluid flow, heart transfer of the slab were stated. According to the technique parameters, the boundary condition and material property parameters for the simulation were gained.(2)The nonlinear FEM software Marc is applied to simulate the temperature distribution and the solidification distribution in mold. With the model, the influences of the processing parameters such as the casting speed and the pouring steel temperature on the temperature of the slab surface and the thickness of the solid shell are investagated.(3)Taking account of the influence of the thickness of the solid shell, the process of steel fluid flowing was simulated at aid of fluid simulation software FLUENT. The software is used to simulate flowing field and summarize the characteristic distribution. With the model, the effects of the processing technical parameters such as the casting speed and submerged depth of nozzle on the flowing field is calculated and analyzed.The suitable flow behavior of steel liquid helps to the inclusion floatage. The suitable temperature field does good to the improvement of heat transfer in the mould, as well as inner quality.Thus, this work has great meaning to improve the quality of product.
