With the social progress, the levels of industrialization are rising. Human standards of living and quality of life have also been increasing. But at the same time, the negative impact of the status brought about by industrialization and urbanization is making the ecological environment deteriorating. Ecological problems have become the focus of world. Academic discussion of ecological issues is heating up.Plekhanov was an outstanding Russian philosopher and theorist of Marxism. His innovative "geographical theory" is a significant contribution to ecological thought on Marxism. Therefore, the study of his inheritance and development for ecological thought on Marxism has important value and significance. It is the thought of alienation between man and nature, the dialectical relationship between man and nature, and Marx's thought of ecological productivity that provide the important theoretical basis for us to study the ecological thought of Plekhanov. This is also the basic point of view that Plekhanov had always insisted when he discussed "geographical theory". During the study, Plekhanov also criticized "environmental determinism" and "non-determinism" strongly, and pointed out their limitations, and developed a breakthrough. The contents of Plekhanov's "geographical theory" can be reduced to 4 points: The geographical environment and human society interact in the development of human society. Productivity is the intermediary during the interaction between nature and social development. Geographical environment on the role of social development is a "variable quantity". Development of human society has its own unique laws. This paper's focus is Plekhanov's Inheritance and Development for Ecological Thought on Marxism. The Inheritance is mainly shown in the following areas: Productivity plays a decisive role in production relations and other social relations. The geographical environment and human society interact in the development of human society. Social movement has its own inherent logic and rules. Plekhanov's innovative development for ecological thought on Marxism is reflected in: Geographical environment works on social development through productivity. The impact of geographical environment during the progress of human society is a "variable quantity". These two points are Plekhanov's important contributions to the development of ecological thought on Marxist. Therefore, the theory provides an important reference for our ecological study in the theory and practice research. In this paper, the author starts form the basic concepts and theory, then summarizes the ecological thought of Plekhanov. Based on the above theories, the author analyzes how Plekhanov inherited and developed the ecological thought on Marxism. The author hopes that this research can play a role in promoting and enriching the theory development of ecological thought on Marxism.
