Carbon fiber has been more widely used in the actual production as a kind of high-performance materials in recent years. Especially, carbon fiber and its composite materials industries have developed in a large-scale. Pre-oxidation process takes a long time in the carbon fiber production, comsumes huge energy, has lots of control parameters which needs high precision. Depending on the pre-oxidation equipments development characteristics and status at home and abroad, this paper designed and developed a new kind of pre-oxidation equipment of PAN-based carbon fiber.This paper firstly analyzed the main characteristics of pre-oxidation process, and put forward the requirements of new kind of PAN-based pre-oxidation equipment design. And then this paper detailed designed and calculated the chamber of pre-oxidation equipment, seals of the mouth, heating system, heated air circulation system, driver distraction system in particular.According to the profile of pre-oxidation equipment and calculation of control points, this paper completed the hardware design of the control system in carbon fiber production line, including the overall design of hardware, constructing the main logical structure of control cabinet; the design of control cabinet, low voltage cabinet, component selection in frequency converters cabinet of fan and drive and the design of their electrical control schematic; selection of PLC and I/O module, configuration of hardware, address allocation, selection of communication structure and setup parameters.Depending on the design requirement of software in carbon fiber productiom control system, the PLC was programmed in structured programming by using Siemens STEP 7, and the HMI program was overall designed and programmed by using WinCC. The whole software of control system had a friendly interface, high real-time communication, strong anti-jamming capability, high control precision and the following equipment upgrades are convenience.The energy consumption in carbon fiber production line was analyzed, and then this paper designed an expert system of temperature control in pre-oxidation equipment, detailed designed the knowledge base and inference engine of the expert system and the results of simulation were carried out. Under the guidance of expert system, this paper analyzed the actual application of the pre-oxidation equipment.The field experience of carbon fiber production line showed that the pre-oxidation equipments and their control system have mature design, high control precision, uniform temperature field. The whole system have a fully function, running in stable status and meet the design requirements. The pre-oxidation fiber and carbon fiber which obtained from the field production line was characterized, and the results showed that they have a excellent performance. It proved that the design of pre-oxidation equipment and control system is reasonable and it can meet the requirements of high performance carbon fiber production and energy conservation.
