In this study, the techniques of MAP and MBBR were used to treat old landfill leachate, which contains high concentration of ammonia and recalcitrant organic compounds. The orthogonal and single factor experiments were used to determine the optimal cinditions of MAP, which was found that the ammonian removal rate could reach as high as over 80%. Under optimal conditions, containing pH, HRT, ammonia-nitrogen lard and C/N, the removal rate of ammonia-nitrogen could reach over 80%. The combinations of MAP, FA, and MBBR as well as their effectiveness and efficiency for removing ammonia-nitrogen and organic compounds from the old landfill leachate were also examined in this study to optimize the overall performance. The experimental outcomes indicate that a promising and stable nitrification-denitrification of old landfill leachate could be achieved in settings of low temperature and low DO concentration.
