Foundry industry is an important pulse of the national economy, the simulation of casting process is the sign that foundry industry from tradition to modernization. In the casting simulation systems, the pre-processing module would import the data model and provide grids to the calculation module, the results will directly affect the software's application and promotion. The pre-processing technology of casting process's numerical simulation was researched in this paper, and a practical, simple pre-processing module based on Visual C++6.0 was developed.The OpenGL development environment was firstly studied in this paper, the interactive technology which can be used in the model's move, zoom and rotation was proposed, it allows users to view the details of the model through a simple click and drag the mouse. STL file format is the intermediary that connects the casting CAD software and the casting casting CAE software. It has the ASCII code and the binary two different kinds of formats, the interface program applying to the above two kinds of structure was programmed, which extended the software's scope of application.Grid generation is the core content of the pre-processing technology. In this paper, the data model was divide into grid rapidly with "the slice scanning method", and the program used to grid generation was programmed. It can identify the boundaries of different material automatically. In view of the problem of "file hole" and "singular point" appearing in the process for grid generation, the fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant system which can be used to judge and eliminate defects was developed. To eliminate the "hidden line" phenomenon, the grid lines were moved a small distance from the grid surface in the course of grid generation. In the course of grid display, it will be helpful to the elimination of response lag to judge and display the surface grid.When designing the software interface, the design style of single-document to multi-view was adopted,and the interface function was aslo optimized and expanded. Besides a drawing window to show the model, a software operation window and a model attribute window were added in the software. The software operation window had the tree view structure which made the steps clear. The model attribute window had the list view structure, it made gaining model information easy. The software interface interface has showed the wonderful content of the program effectively, fully embodied the software's function,and brought users the visual enjoyment.Applying the software in some complex casting's grid generation, the result indicated that the pre-processing module had achieved satisfying effect in dividing precision, grid display, and surface arrangement,had certain practical value.
