Coking heavy oil is a byproduct of coking industry and steel industry, including xylene, styrene, coumarone, indene, mesitylene, toluene and naphthalene, hundreds of substances, and so on, which are important chemical raw materials, which contains unsaturated hydrocarbons and sulfide, major obstacles to its further application. In traditional refining process, removing unsaturated hydrocarbons and sulfur compounds by method of sulfuric acid and hydrogenation in the coking heavy oil. The former product, bad color, difficult separation, complex post-treatment, water pollution, otherwise the latter, the high cost of higher operating conditions, those problems which restrict large-scale industrial operations. Therefore, a new technology, developing low-cost, simple operation, environmental protection, has important practical significance. In this article, the coking heavy oil is divided into two parts, according to boiling point, one is coking xylene, and the other is refined heavy distillate fractions of benzene (Coumarone-indene account for about 30%-40%). To separate styrene from coking xylene and to gain coumarone-indene resin and solvent oil are catalysted by lewise ionic liquids. In the experiment, the ionic liquids as catalysts are used for refining study of coking heavy oil. The results show that, Lewis acidic ionic liquids have a catalytic efect on the refining of coking heavy oil, but Et3N·H-AlCl3 is the best of all in activity. In addition to, AlCl3/Et3N·H's molar ratio 2, and Et3N·H-AlCl3 ionic liquid as catalyst, is researched on reaction time, reaction temperature, catalyst amount, catalyst acid strength, solvent ratio on the catalytic performance. The results show that, Et3N·H-AlCl3 ionic liquids are highly efficient catalysts. Refining Coking xylene in styrene polymerization under optimum conditions; the reaction time 60 minutes, the reaction at 30℃, ionic liquid dosage of 3w%, and AlCl3/Et3N·H's molar ratio 2, the styrene conversion reachs to 96%, the desulfurization rate up to 90%. The optimum reaction conditions of coumarone-indene resin; that 30 minutes of reaction time, reaction temperature 30℃, ionic liquid dosage of 3w%, AlCl3/Et3N·H's molar ratio 2, t coumarone-indene resin conversion was 98%, solvent oil yield of 95%. Et3N·H-AlCl3 ionic liquid on the impact of desulfurization of coking heavy is researched also.
