NBR with excellent oil resistance, heat aging and mechanical properties known as a kind of oil resistance rubber has been widely used in machinery, automobile, aerospace, shipbuilding, home appliances and oil drilling equipment and other fields.In this research NBR/ZDMA alloy is prepared by in situ method, using nitrile rubber (NBR) as the main body, joined with the active zinc oxide (ZnO) and methacrylic acid (MAA). With orthogonal test method, various factors that affect the curing characteristics, mechanical properties, heat aging resistance, oil & solvent resistances, glass transition temperature and dynamic mechanical properties have been systematic studied. The main factors that affect the properties of NBR/ZDMA alloy have been determined for further variable test based on the systematic analysis of the orthogonal test results, aiming at designing and developing an appropriate formulation and processing technology, producing a kind of NBR/ZDMA alloy with excellent mechanical properties, high modulus, oil resistance as well as heat aging properties.Orthogonal experiment results show that:the main factors affecting the alloy in order are: the amount of methacrylic acid(MAA), zinc oxide(ZnO), dicumyl peroxide(DCP) and interaction of ZnO & MAA.Based on the orthogonal analysis, the further variable test results show that:with dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as the main cross-linking agent, active zinc oxide (ZnO) dosage 35phr, methacrylic acid (MAA) dosage 45phr, the alloy can achieve better performance, tensile strength to 36.4MPa, elongation at break to 242%,100% elongation to 32.1MPa, Shore A hardness of 95 degrees, tear strength to 77.5KN/m. Together with the sulfur curing system both the curing time and elongation at break of alloy can be significantly extended, the hardness and torque have been reduced. Carbon black and precipitated silica reinforcement effect of the alloy was not significant, and would reduce the alloy's elongation, increase the hardness. Anti-aging agent RD NBC agents have better performance on the alloy and reduce torque when vulcanized, increase the alloy's elongation with suitable dosage of 2phr. Coumarone resin and 2402 resin could plasticize the alloy significantly, extended elongation. Dynamic mechanical properties confirmed that NBR is compatible with ZDMA within the NBR/ZDMA alloy prepared by in situ method.
