Forgings are basic component in national economy construct development. Large forgings are used in many important technique equipments such as in nuclear power station, stream turbine in wind power plant, construction of national defense etc. With the rapid development of China's economic, the energy resource and national defense construction need more and more large forgings,the production capacity and quality of large forgings are asked to be more higher. Currently the production technology is not perfect in China, and many sorts of key technology are kept university, so it cannot meet the demand of the domestic economic development. The testing technology can ensure the quality of large forgings, and it plays a very important role in production. Now the test technology for large forgings is not advanced enough, and it can not meet the request of mass production and high qualified. To enhance the competitive strength of indigenous large forgings in market, it is asked to explore actively advanced forging process and try to improve quality of the large forgings, furthermore, the further research and investigation of technology and methods used in large forgings quality detection must be done immediately.Ultrasonic test technology is very significant and widely used in Non-destruction testing field. And it plays an important role in the development of industrial economy. Ultrasonic test technology connects with computer technology and information technology more closely, and it is arousing more and more attention with the progress of the times.The research of this paper done was the detection technology on large forgings, the subject originated from authorized items of institutions. It is very difficult to determine the nature of the defects in Ultrasonic test. The paper is to solve the above difficult problems.Firstly, start from the ultrasonic detection method based on the theoretical basis, a systematic analysis of the ultrasonic propagation in the medium and mechanism of the phenomenon of reflection and transmission which is occurred in the boundaries of different defects and the matrix is carried out. And then a detailed analysis and research on the characteristics of the common defects which can create a serious impact on the use performance of large forgings is also carried out. The defects are classified preliminary through the comprehensive analysis of the interaction on the heterogeneous interface between the ultrasonic and the defects and the application of the technology of the support vector machine. According to the signal waveform, detect is classified into detailed type and the purpose of identifying defect characterization is achieved. The research of the method has a great significance to the detection of large forgings.
