The camshaft is one of the key parts of the HXN5 type diesel electric locomotive, which will bear major bend and torsion load during the working process, and its quality will affect the power of engine and emission directly. In order to meet the requirement of the high performance of engine, General Electric Company of USA (hereinafter called GE company) adopted alloy steel C50E83C as this material without any replacements in China. So there is not any research of its cutting performance in domestic. It is very difficult to be machined because of the hardness and tenacity. Meanwhile it is difficult to cut breaking, especially machining the deep oil hole. This oil hole is so deep that the chip is difficult to break and remove, and the quality of the machining surface is lower. There are always fins, burrs and scratches during the process of machining, which causes inferior quality of surface. The cleanness of the camshaft can not meet HXN5 type locomotive's requirement.This paper chooses the deep hole machining of the camshaft as the object of study, in order to ensure the quality of the dimensions of hole diameter and surface roughness, but the premise is that without addition large amount funding, according to the present condition of company, focusing in technique innovation, advanced procedure introduction, selecting machining tools and then conducting the cutting test, In reference of testing results to choose the suitable machining tools and machining parameter, putting into the actual production and optimizing, finally obtaining a suitable and optimal machining procedure of the deep hole. Improving the production efficiency, reducing the production cost and forming the batch production capacity in short time. The research contents of this paper as follows:First, Introducing the deep hole machining technique of domestic and overseas, According to the condition of company, conducting the feasibility analysis for the questions that need resolving.Second, Referring to the domestic drill procedure of deep hole, using longhole twist drill during the cutting test, and getting the optimal cutting parameter, evaluating feasibility, practicability and economy of machining.Third, Simulating the working condition of spout-suck drill with Third Wave simulation software, doing simulation test of drilling the material of C50E83C alloy steel, getting the optimal cutting parameter.Finally, Making full use of the testing data, through the practical machining test, optimizing the parameter further, thereby getting the reasonable cutting parameter of machining HXN5 type camshaft oil hole. In the evidence of the practical machining, Adopting these cutting parameters, not only guaranteeing the quality, but also improving the efficiency and reducing the costs.
