Boron chemistry is an interesting and increasingly developing field of study that includes neutral boranes and their anions, metallaboranes, carboranes and metallacarboranes, main group heteroboranes and their metal derivatives. These compounds have provided a lot of interesting potential applications, including catalysis, boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) of tumors, nonlinear optics, supramolecular chemistry, etc. Therefore, it is of interest to continue studying the syntheses and structures of new borane derivatives. Carboranes and boroles are important parts of boron chemistry. This thesis mainly describes the research on the reaction of dilithio-ortho-carborane with ferrocenecarboxaldehyde, PhSeSePh, Ph2SnCl2, Bu2SnCl2, (CN)2CHBr, and the reactions of C2B10H10(CH2COOH)2 and Zn(NO3)2 under different conditions, respectively. Some of the products are characterized by IR and single-crystal X-ray analyses. The four sections of this thesis are as follows:In chapter 1, a general review is given to introduce the synthesis, reactivity and development of carborane chemistry (in particular that of o-carborane) and the borole chemistry. In chapter 2, the reactions of dilithio-ortho-carborane with ferrocenecarboxaldehyde, PhSeSePh, Ph2SnCl2, Bu2SnCl2, (CN)2CHBr, respectively, are described. The products isolated are: 1,2-bis(phenylselenyl)-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane(12) (1), 1-[(ferrocenyl)(hydroxy)methyl]-1,2-dicarba-closo-docecaborane(12) (2), 1,2-bis[(ferrocenyl)(hydroxy)methyl]-1,2-dicarba-closo-docecaborane(12) (3), C2B10H10(Ph2SnCl)(μ-OH)(Ph2SnOH2) (4), (C2B10H10SnPh2)2 (5), (C2B10H10SnBu2)2 (6) and the inner salt C5B9H14N2Br (7). These products are characterized by IR and single-crystal X-ray analyses. The reactions of C2B10H10(CH2COOH)2 and Zn(NO3)2 under different conditions afforded two complexes: [B5O6(OH)4][H2NMe2] (8), [Zn(HCOO)2(H2O)2]∞(9), respectively. In chapter 3, the attempted synthesis of boroles is reported. The reactions of an (1,2,3,4-tetraaryl-1,3-butadien-l,4-ylidene)dilithium in ether solution with (C5H4BBr2)Fe(C5H4BBr2) formed presumbly the corresponding borole product C4BPh4(C5H4)Fe(C5H4)C4BPh4. Then this product was treated with excess potassium in the hope of obtaining K4[C4BPh4(C5H4)Fe(C5H4)C4BPh4]. We tried to get the iron comploxese via the reaction of K4[C4BPh4(C5H4)Fe(C5H4)C4BPh4] with anhydrous FeCl2. In this chapter we also tried to obtain the (C12H8B)(C5H4)Fe(C5H4)(C12H8B) via the reaction of 2,2'-dibromobiphenyl with n-BuLi, and then with (C5H4BBr2)Fe(C5H4BBr2).In chapter 4, the reactions are concluded as well as the structural characters of the products.
