Difficult-cutting-material has been the manufacturing problems in the aerospace, petrochemical, automotive and other industries. The paper focuses research on the cryogenic cutting of the austenitic stainless steel 1Cr18Ni9Ti. Firstly a brief introduction is given to the concept of the cryogenic machining and development of cryogenic machining both at home and abroad, and then the influence of cryogenic cutting to cutting nature of austenitic stainless steel 1Cr18Ni9Ti is researched from the following aspects:The experiment of cryogenic cutting affecting on chip-breaking show that the chip color is different at the low temperature and room temperature, which can certify that cryogenic cutting could reduce the cutting temperature significantly; ribbon cutting chips is formed when austenitic stainless steel is cut at room temperature. In the circumstances of appropriate cutting values, chip breaking can achieve by cryogenic cutting. The change of cutting force value at room temperature and low temperature is studied by orthogonal test, the cutting empirical formula of the austenitic stainless steel at room temperature and low temperature is established by multiple linear regression. The results showed: cryogenic cutting can make Cutting force in X and Z direction reduce, while the Cutting force in Y-axis increase to some extent. The law of surface roughness affecting by cutting speed and feed rate is researched by single factor experiments, the experimental results showed that: with increase of cutting speed and feed rate, the surface roughness values are significantly decreased at low temperature and room temperature; with the increase of feed rate , surface roughness values increase regardless of cutting at low or room temperature; and under the same cutting values, surface roughness is better at low temperature.A variety of tool wear curves cutting stainless steel 1Crl8Ni9Ti are obtained by single factor experiment of the cutting speed and back cutting depth, experimental results show that cryogenic cutting has little effect on the initial tool wear. some cutting tool wear curves were obtained by single factor experiments under the various of conditions. Cutting temperature is the main factor to tool life, the impact of cutting speed on tool life is greater than back cutting depth; cryogenic cutting can improve tool life at higher cutting speeds, which can greatly improve the cutting efficiency.
