Ball mill, as an important equipment in the process of grinding, was widely used in many basic industries such as Building materials, Chemical, Metallurgy Industry, Material, Electricity and concentrator. Ball mill grinding process is through the ball of the mineral aggregate of combat and grinding to achieve. Ball is energy-carrying body, but also the implementation of the broken body. So the size of balls has directly impact on the energy of broken. At same time it also has impact on the result of grinding. Besides, the whole grinding is dissociative. In other words, the purpose of grinding is mineral dissociation. So ball crushing force also determines the degree of dissociation of minerals. And then it affects the final product quality. Moreover, the size of the balls has a certain impact on consumption of power and ball. In a word, the size of balls affects the whole ball mill grinding process and it also one of the important elements. The method of discrete element analysis to research ball sizes was introduced by this paper. PFC 3D software is used to analyse ball mill. Firstly, this software was used to create model for laboratory ball mill. And the validity of the simulation results was proved. Secondly, the effect that the size of the ball impact on mill critical speed was studied. Respectively, the methods of simulation, theoretical derivation and experiment was used to prove the relationship between the ball size and mill critical speed. And then, the effect that the size of balls impact on mill parameters was studied. Mainly, research on the impact on the number of balls and the size of scaleboard. Respectively, the method of theoretical analysis and simulation was used to find the relationship between the ball size and the scaleboard size and the relationship between ball size and the ball number. Finlly, Respectively, the model forφ3.6×4.0m ball mill andφ2.7×3.6m ball mill was created. By simulation and making power comparison, the the best radius of ball mill was found.
