Rolling shear mechanism is one of the important processes in modern industry. Shearing is a very complicate process, its deformation is very large and focused on the small area of cutting edge clearance, it involves many fields such as elastic-plasticity mechanics, metal physical, fracture and damage mechanics, calculation method and so on. At the same time, it is a multiple nonlinearity problem about materials, geometric and boundary conditions. So it is difficult to study the deformation mechanism. In the process of production, the defects which caused by the bad choice of the blade clearance could be seen often, such as the collapse of plate's edge and head, secondary shear surface and flaws, the blade clearance also has influences the life of blade tools. The clearance was used mostly from experiment data. the empirical formula come from ordered data, but this only apply to one or several steel ,which is not only in a narrow range, the accuracy of adjustment is low, and bring much trouble to the actual production, but also increase the consumption and production costs. The study on the regular of the shearing stress and strain in the deformation area and the process parameter and material parameter's influence on the shape of section is important. It is not only having larger significant on design and modifies the equipment, but also making more reasonable shearing process of shearing reasonably. For the company, it reduces production costs, environment protection and increase the efficiency and plate quality.This paper is based on the project of Personnel for scientific research project in Shan Xi province. It has conducted the research to the rolling shear clearance. As the study of the distributed of inner stress and strain and the parameters which influence the shearing section. The formula of clearance of rolling shear could be got by theory derivation. Then the formula needed to be modified by experiment. At the same time, the model of cutting-edge steel plate shear had been established by FEA software ANSYS / LS-DYNA, the shearing fracture process was simulated by explicit dynamic finite element. The plates of stress and strain were obtained, the plastic strain distribution of sheared plate was given in width direction and the change of shear force was obtained in the shearing process. The relationship between the shearing parameters and shearing force were analyzed. Finally, a shear testing equipment was designed to test the shearing force and the shearing section under different clearance. The results illustrates that it is right about finite element simulation and clearance formula. In this paper, the research on the clearance in rolling shearing process was studied by the method of theory analysis, finite element model simulation and process experiment. The paper results would provide great help to the nationalization of rolling shear equipment and the solution of existent problems in current shears.
