Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and sodium carboxymethyl starch which are the two kinds of ether structure of derivatives, are produced from natural cellulose and starch through chemical modification of respectively. They are widely used in the field of catharsis things, cosmetics, oil drilling, textile slurry, building materials, papermaking, casting, food, leather, pharmacy, etc.Potato starchy residue is waste which is produced in the process of preparation of potato starch. With 1 ton starch was produced, there can produce 5 tons of wet potato starchy residue. The main composition of potato starch residue is water, starch, fiber, pectin, lignin, half fibers etc. If can utilize the useful ingredients in the potato starchy residue effectively, it not only can the potato starch residue utilization, still can solve pollution of the potato starch residue to the environment problem. This paper put forward a project that use the potato starch residue as raw material to prepare sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, the mixture of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and sodium carboxymethyl starch. Specific research content as follows:Potato starch residue through different refining methods to get refined raw materials, such as cellulose and the mixture of cellulose and starch, respectively; then we can use the refined raw materials to produce sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, the mixture of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and sodium carboxymethyl starch through the processes of alkalify, etherification, neutralization, washing and drying. We have determined the effects to the results of the experiment, including refined conditions and the factors of the process of basification, etherification (such as the ratio of raw materials, reaction temperature, reaction time, solvents, etc.), and got best experimental conditions of preparation of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, the mixture of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and sodium carboxymethyl starch from potato starch residue.Various performance indicators of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose are as follows:the viscosity is around 5700mPa·s (1% of aqueous), the pH value is between 7.0 and 7.5, the degree of substitution maintains at 0.57 or so, the loss on drying maintains at 6.5% or so, the content of chlorine is around 0.13%, the content of arsenic is round 0.000045%, the content of lead is 0.001%, the content of heavy metal is qualified. All the indexes accord with "Food additive sodium carboxymethyl cellulose" GB1904-2005 Standards.Various performance indicators of the mixture of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and sodium carboxymethyl starch are as follows:the viscosity is around 3700mPa·s (2% of aqueous), the pH value is between 7.0 and 7.5, the degree of substitution maintains at 0.50 or so, the loss on drying maintains at 8.0% or so, the content of chlorine is around 0.15%, the content of arsenic is round 0.000015%, the content of lead is 0.001%, the content of heavy metal is qualified.. All the indexes achieved certain requirement, it can instead of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose or carboxymethyl starch sodium in a certain field.
