This paper analyzes the motorized spindle structure and its operating requirements for the woodworking machine tool. Two heat sources of the spindle, bearings and the built-in motor, heat transfer and heat dissipation of the spindle are analyzed and calculated. The spindle's temperature field is analyzed by finite element analysis method. The temperature distribution of the motorized spindle for woodworking machine tool is presented, which provides a theoretical basis for optimization of the thermal structure of the motorized spindle for woodworking machine tool. Main factors that affect the spindle temperature rise and temperature distribution are obtained. The measures to improve thermal characteristics of the motorized spindle are proposed. Thermal structure optimized spindle for woodworking machine tool can improve its machining precision and working life. Main contents in this paper include:Firstly, the structure characteristics of a high speed motorized spindle and the heat sources are analyzed. The spindle's thermal load, the thermal boundary conditions are deduced based on the finite element method.Secondly, the finite element analysis model of the high-speed motorized spindle for woodworking machine tool is established by thermal-structural coupling method. The boundary conditions and pre-load parameters are calculated. The result of FEA of the spindle is discussed.Thirdly, based on the thermal analysis results of the spindle, proposals to improve the thermal characteristics of the spindle are presented. Strengthening to cool the spindle can improve effectiveness of heat dissipation. Optimizing the spindle thermal structure and strengthening to cool the built-in motor can improve the heat balance of the spindle. Reducing the heat of bearings and using new hybrid ceramic ball bearings, properly lubricating are also presented to improve the thermal characteristics of the spindle. After analyzing the improved spindle by FEM, the results show that the presented measures to improve the thermal characteristics of the motorized spindle are effective.Finally, summary of the paper and prospects are carried out.Using heat dissipation jacket to cool the spindle, using new hybrid ceramic ball bearings and properly lubricating ensure the characteristics of the motorized spindle for woodworking machine tool to meet its operating requirements. When the woodworking machine tool spindle's thermal equilibrium is reach, the highest temperature in the spindle is low. The temperature distribution is even in various parts of the spindle and the thermal deformation is small.
