The purpose of this work is preparing diamond tools by the way of rolling, which is a new method of preparing diamond tools nowadays. Combining preparation of diamond tools by powder metallurgy with the process and advantages of composite rolling, the process of preparing diamond tools by rolling was proposed, and all aspects of the experiment were researched and analyzed.The copper and 08F steel rolling composite were prepared by rolling in this article, and then were sintered in the sintering furnace at protective atmosphere. Finally, the diamond rolling composite tools were prepared.During the preparation of diamond tools by rolling, feasibility analysis was carried out firstly, the diamond distribution, motion state, breaking rate of diamond and the interface bonding of diamond and metal matrix were researched; And then, the effects of rolling and sintering process parameters on rolling composite tools were researched; Finally, the grinding performance tests of copper and 08F steel rolling composite tools were carried out.The state and morphology of diamond in the complex were observed by stereo microscope; The bonding strength of composite interface was analyzed by the universal testing machine; The bending performance testing of composite were conducted by bench clamp; The grinding performance of composite tools were measured by wear ratio determinator.The results show that the rolling method can be used to prepare diamond tools, and this tool has fine interface bonding and grinding performance. This method reduces the production cost greatly, and it is in favor of mechanization and automation production.During the rolling, diamond rolled firstly, it began sliding when met resistance, and left ravines, after rolling the diamond embedded in the metal matrix; Some of the diamond particles broke during rolling, the breaking was mainly in the form of corner chipping and fracture, a few were powder breaking; The diamond dispersed uniformly during rolling; The interface bonding of diamond and metal matrix was fine after sintering, the result of bending test was good, and no stratification and cracking.Considering the interface bonding strength of rolling complex and the experimental conditions, the reasonable rolling parameters are as follow: the total reduction rate of rolling is 75%; Sintering temperature is at 850℃, the atmosphere of sintering is argon, holding time of Copper is 10 min, 08F steel is 20 min; The addition of metal bond is about 10%.The prepared diamond tool has good grinding performance. During grinding performance test of SiC wheel, the grinding ratio has maximum, when the concentration of diamond in the copper rolling complex is 25%, close to 17; While, when the concentration of diamond in 08F steel rolling complex is 35%, it is close to13, but the grinding efficiency of 08F steel is 2 times of copper rolling complex tool, the grinding efficiency to SiC wheel reaches 45 g/s.
