As a new type of green environment-friendly and functional textile material, apocynum venetum fiber has attracted increasing attention because of its natural antibacterial and health care function. However, it is always blended with cotton to use due to its limited source, expensive price and poor spinning. Cotton has a high cellulose content but low other substances content, while apocynum venetum has low cellulose content. In addition, apocynum venetum has not only high degree of crystallinity and orientation, but also high content of pectin, lignin and other substances, resulting its poor dyeing ability. Therefore, it is difficult to union the color in the dyeing process of apocynum venetum/cotton blended fabric. In order to solve this problem, cationic polymer nanoparticles with high specific surface area is introduced to modify the apocynum venetum/cotton blended fabric in this paper. Then the modified fabric was dyed with acid red B. The influence of different modification factors on the dyeing properties were investigated by testing the color parameters of the samples. And the modification and the dyeing ability of the fiber were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, wetting property and contact angle etc.The results indicate that the fiber surface is rough and the specific surface area increases after treated by plasma due to its etching effect. These make the fabrics more conducive to dyeing. Nanoparticles were adsorbed on the surface of the fiber in a uniform and monolayer state. The color of dyed fabric was improved evidently. Compared with the untreated fabric, the treated fabric surface was introduced into carbon containing groups, the content of C increased from 68.69% to 77.56%, and O decreased from 27.84% to 17.35%. In last, the C1s peak was significantly enhanced. In addition, with the drying temperature increasing, the wetting time of fabric increased from 39s to 255s, and the contact angle increased from 38° to 75°. The nanoparticles is gradually changed from spherical to film, which is attached to the fiber surface. The hydrophilic property of the fabric is poor, while the hydrophobicity is well. So it can be seen that the adsorption state of nanoparticles is different, then it will affects the surface properties of the fabric. Since the nanoparticles only can be adsorbed on the surface of the fiber, so the modified apocynum venetum/cotton blended fabric has the same adsorption ability to anionic dye acid red B, which can realize the same color of the blended fabric during the dyeing process.
