Mixed flow pumps play an important role in many industries of national economy, and the smooth operation and safety production of the mixed flow pumps are vital to the production lines. Because of the complex structure and large number of components, previous studies on mixed flow pumps are mainly focused on the internal flow phenomena of individual parts. With the rapid development of computer technology and CFD, more and more attentions have been paid to the research of the overall performance and relevant design of the matched different parts.Aiming at the poor performance of the vertical mixed flow pump (flow performances can not meet the design requirement) provided by a manufacturer, the solid modeling of the pump was conducted by using the modeling software UG, and the three-dimensional flow field of prototype pump provided by the manufacturer was numerically simulated and calculated based on the commercial software NUMECA. Through detailed analysis of its internal flow characteristics, the causes of its poor performance were found out. Then a new water pump impeller was re-optimized and designed by using the model method without changing the condition of the pump guide vanes, and technological transformation was made. Meanwhile, the performance of the new mixed flow pump after changing the impeller was numerically simulated. The conclusion shows the performance such as pressure or velocity distribution of new the pump after changing the impeller is better than the prototype pump and the service efficiency is increased by 10%, and the performance improvement is obvious.The research results in this dissertation in some extent provide some constructive opinions for the numerical simulation and performance analysis of the internal flow fields of the mixed flow pumps. The conclusions provide good reference for the design and efficiency improvement of pump products.
