There is plenty of biomass in China, which can be used efficiently by thermochemical or biological conversion route to produce clean fuel and electricity thus saving energy and protecting environment. This paper summed up the current research situation of biomass pyrolysis technology for liquid production, and compared the performances of several kinds of typical pyrolysis sets. Fast pyrolysis of biomass in fluidized bed is considered to be promising as it can produce bio-oils which can be further upgraded for engine use.In the paper, the pyrolysis and dynamic characteristics of dried rice husks and algae powder samples were researched, via the thermogravimetric experiments under different conditions. The TG-DTG curves regularities and the heating rate effects on pyrolysis reaction were analysed accordingly. Meanwhile, the suited kinetic mechanism was chosen. The results demonstrate that within a range of heating rate, the TG curves of different heating rate show a common trend of reaction mechanism, and first-order reaction kinetic model is feasible. The TG experiments provide useful information for the designing of fast pyrolysis fluidized bed and its operation.Based on TG experiments, biomass fast pyrolysis system which includes screw conveying device, bubbling fluidized bed, gas-solid separation equipment, and condenser, was designed. Given the main design parameters and manufacturing dimensions, standardized hot test procedure and measurement index, calibrated the feed rate of the spiral feeder. The experimental studies, which take the algae powder as raw materials, reaction temperature as its most important factors, carried out cold and hot test. The results indicate that there are more differences among the product yields of the gas, solid and liquid obtained from the algae, compared with from the sawdust, straw and rice husks under the same reaction conditions, and the bio-oil components are also significantly different. It also provides useful guidance value for the subsequent experimental parameter optimization and actual operation control.
