Through the academic analysis and experiments study of the high turbidity water, in this paper the author debates the constituting change of the stable particles with the concentration and the forming theory of the pulp-supernatant interface; divides the settling process into four stages -zone settling stage, flocculent net settling stage, super flocculent net settling stage; determines the size of floe, the density of floe and the structure model of floe; reveals the laws of the settlement in the different stages. By analyzing the data obtained in flocculation sedimentation, the author points that when the dosage is fixed, the settling rates decreases exponentially with the concentration increasing; obtains the relation between the starting point of dosage and the surface area of particles per cubic dilution, when the cationic macromolecular flocculating agent is used. By comparison Kynch method with Coe-Clevenger method ,the author proves that Kynch method is better in thickener design.
