The development of 3-phase Static Compensator (STATCOM) is summarized and the principle of D-STATCOM is analyzed in detail in the thesis. By theoretical analysis, the mathematic model for reactive power compensation in power distribution system is deduced, and a new control strategy is also presented. The simulation to D-STATCOM system is processed and the experiment system is also developed. The result of simulation and experiment proved the correctness of the mathematic model and control strategy.In consideration of the character of D-STATCOM for the reactive power compensation in power distribution system, a relative experiment system is designed, in which a voltage source inverter with IGBT and PWM control based on DSP is adopted to the main circuit. In the experiment system, two ways of pulse generating is employed, such as SPWM and SVPWM. The regulation of DC-voltage is achieved by controlling the phase angle 6 between the power supply voltage and VSI output voltage, and the VSI output voltage is changed by controlling the PWM modulation depth A.. Thus, the experiment system realized the function of generating capacitive power or absorbing inductive power.A new driving and protecting circuit based on FPGA for IPM is designed and it provides the secondary dead-time compensation to ensure the IPM to work safely.
